Supplies you need to have in your cabinet all the timeAs a person dedicated to maintaining your house spick and span, you always buy cleaning supplies and other household items in bulks whenever you go to the supermarket. On one hand, that’s great, you know that you will never find yourself in an embarrassing situation when unexpected guests call that they will come over or you want to cook something late at night and you lack the necessary ingredients. Plus buying in bulk can save you a lot of money.

On the downside, it is more time-consuming than grabbing a single item from the shelf. What’s more, you have to think about the storage of these items and make sure you have enough space at home. However, are you sure you always buy the must-have supplies or you just buy random stuff, stock it in the closet and hope it will do a good job some day? Check out the main supplies you should never run out of:

  • Paper towels are your irreplaceable cleaning assistant. You can use them to clean every surface, blot a pet stain or a spillage. Don’t get surprised that you run low on paper towels too fast. After all, it is a way easier to wipe down the countertop with a towel and throw it in the trash instead of using a sponge. That’s not the most environmentally friendly cleaning approach, but no one can deny it is convenient.

  • General cleaning supplies. You can always use a mixture of white vinegar and baking soda or call the professionals to clean your carpet, but when it comes to sponges, microfiber cloths, mops, you can hardly find a substitute. Make sure you always keep a pack of these in the closet.

  • Nonperishable foods are yet another must have. It takes a few years for the cans of food to expire and they actually do a great job when you have temporary financial issues. Dry pasta, beans, rice are can also be kept stocked for quite some time.

  • As a pet owner, you know that you need to feed your pet every day, so if you find a good deal, buy pet food and treats in bulk. However, make sure you check the expiration dates. If the price is too low, that’s usually an indication that there is something suspicious. In the worst-case scenario, you will have to make a trip to the vet.

  • Toiletries are something you should never run out of. Some people always keep a  travel-size shampoo, toothpaste, wet wipes and hand-sanitiser in their suitcase. Even if you do not like thinking in advance about the trip you are going to make next summer, you should always keep razors, shampoos, soap, a new toothbrush, shower gel in stock. By the way, don’t throw old toothbrushes away. They have a vast application around the household. You can use them to clean difficult to access areas or scrub dirt from delicate surfaces. Don`t rush to call the upholstery cleaners, first try using a toothbrush and mild soap if you spot a stain on your sofa.

  • Make sure you keep a pack of batteries at home. Most electronic devices run on AA batteries, kids also need them for their toys. You might consider the sounds toys make absolutely annoying, but at least kids are kept entertained.

  • You never know when a light bulb is going to burn out, so you’d better be prepared in advance. You are advised to opt for high-quality bulbs that have a longer life expectancy. They are a bit more expensive, but you will have your investment back as they are eco-friendly and consume less energy than the standard ones.

  • If you work from home, make sure you have all office supplies needed for the smooth, trouble-free working process. There is nothing more unpleasant than having to print an important contract and finding out you are out of ink or paper.

  • The smaller trash bags you buy, the more often you will throw out the trash, which therefore prevents unpleasant smells from spreading around the house. So trash bags are a must-have in every home. Apart from placing them in the garbage bin, you can also use them to protect your outdoor plants from low temperatures during the night. Take off the trash bag in the morning unless you want your plants to die out.

It goes without saying that there are not two identical properties and you know best which are the supplies you need. You can occasionally take a walk around the house and write down the supplies you should get on your next trip to the supermarket or the home improvement store. That’s the most effective method to make sure you will never run out of essential products and have to rush to the store late at night if a light bulb burns out or you have forgotten to buy your cat some canned food.
